Warm up this fall with our healthy protein-packed turkey chili! With plenty of spices, hardy kidney beans, and lean ground turkey; this healthy recipe is perfect for cold days, tailgates and game days, or just because you are in the mood for some chili.

INGREDIENTS
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
½ yellow onion (chopped)
3 garlic cloves (minced)
1 medium red bell pepper (chopped)
4 tablespoons chili powder
1 lb. ground turkey or chicken (97% lean)
2 cans (28 oz) diced or crushed tomatoes
2 cans (15 oz) dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground pepper
DIRECTIONS
Add olive oil to a large cooking pot and place over medium-low heat
Add in onions, garlic, and red pepper and sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently
Add ground turkey or chicken and cook until no longer pink, stirring frequently
Combine chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper into a small bowl then pour into pot and stir
Pour two cans of crushed tomatoes and kidney beans into pot, stirring frequently
Bring to boil then simmer for 30 minutes with cover on until chili thickens
Taste and adjust seasonings and salt as necessary
Garnish with cheese, tortilla chips, cilantro, sour cream, or fresh jalapeños and serve with your choice of sides.
For the spicy lovers: If you want to add some heat to this recipe, you can increase the amount of cayenne powder, choose a spicier chili powder, or top it off with some fresh jalapeños.
